For this project I wanted to explore the combination of 3D and 2D animation.

 

The tests I carried out were:

 

-Set Driven Key Expressions

-Hand drawn Animation

 

Both were overlayed over a 3D model.

The First test I carried out involved modelling a quick character in Maya, and then in Photoshop, create various expressions to then be set up as Set Driven Keys that were animatable.

My next test was to then try various hand-drawn 2D tests just to refresh on timing and fluidity.

 

I then composited the gifs over a 3D rendered scene to see the result.

To get a more polished example of combining 2D and 3D animation, I then took a 3D character created by both me and a classmate and composited more 2D hand-drawn tests over the top. The Character also has Set-driven expressions, although not featured in the video at the bottom of this post.
